Blue Kyanite Palm Stone — 54 mm

Kyanite grows in blades, and the streaked blue and white running the length of this stone is those blades seen edge-on. It has a property almost nothing else in the mineral world does: two different hardnesses in the same crystal — roughly 4.5 along the blade, 6.5 across it. Whoever cut this had to work with the grain and against it inside a single piece.

It is also denser than it looks. At 54 mm this sits noticeably heavier in the hand than a quartz of the same size, which is usually the first thing people notice about it.
