Labradorite Palm Stone — 55 mm

Labradorite is grey until it isn't. Tilt this one into the light and most of the face lights at once — pink through orange into gold, with a blue edge that arrives last. The colour is not pigment and not fluorescence: light interferes inside microscopic layers within the feldspar, which is why it appears at one angle and vanishes entirely at the next.

Flash across a whole face is the scarce part. Most rough gives you a patch, and cutters orient around it as best they can. Here the layers run close to parallel with the polished surface, so the sheet holds together rather than breaking into fragments of colour.

Shaped to sit in a closed hand — flat enough to carry in a pocket, heavy enough to notice it there.
