Rutilated Quartz Bracelet, Multicolour — 12 mm

Quartz that crystallised around minerals already sitting in the ground. Each bead here holds a different arrangement — rust and copper needles through some, a drift of pale green or smoke grey in others, one or two nearly clear. Where the needles are fine enough to read as hair, the Chinese trade calls it tu mao, rabbit hair, which is exactly what it looks like at close range.

Because the inclusions change bead to bead, no two strands of this material read the same. This one runs warm: apricot and salmon through most of it, with a handful of cooler beads breaking the rhythm.
