Tiger's Eye Bracelet, Three-Colour

All three colours of tiger's eye on one strand — and one of them is not natural, so we will say which.

Gold is tiger's eye as it usually comes out of the ground: quartz threaded with fine crocidolite fibre whose iron has altered to honey-brown. Blue, sold as hawk's eye, is the same stone where that iron never altered, so the fibre keeps its blue-black. Red is gold tiger's eye that has been heated — the iron oxidises further and the colour deepens to red-brown. Heating is a long-standing and entirely ordinary treatment in this material, and nearly all red tiger's eye on the market is made this way. It is still a treatment, and worth stating rather than leaving you to assume.

What does not change across the three is the band of light. The fibre structure is the same in every bead, so gold, red and blue each throw the same moving line as your wrist turns. The strand reads warm overall, with the blue beads dark enough to pass for black until the light catches them.

At 6 mm and 8 mm the colours blend into a warm, speckled strand that stacks easily with other pieces. At 10 mm the three colours start to separate bead by bead. At 16 mm every bead stands on its own, the colour changes become the pattern, and the band of light is broad and easy to follow.
